Georgian player. International Grandmaster, 1978. International Master, 1962. Woman International Grandmaster, 1976. Woman International Master, 1961. Woman World Champion, 1962-1978. USSR Woman Champion 5 times during 1964-1985. Trivia by Bill Wall The first woman to achieve the men's International Grandmaster title, in 1978. She became the first woman to win a "men's" chess tournament when she tied for first place at Lone Pine in 1977. She has had a perfume named after her in the USSR.
